Advanced Maintenance Engineering, Services and Technologies

Maintenance in the Digital Era
4th IFAC Workshop on Advanced Maintenance Engineering, Services and Technologies

Important Message from the Workshop Organising Committee:

The 4th IFAC AMEST 2020 organising committee hopes that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during these turbulent times.

We are thankful for the overwhelming interest shown by our community in our workshop, which is evident from the strong contribution of high quality paper submissions. 76 papers were submitted overall, including 28 contributions to invited sessions. 198 reviews were delivered and all papers received at least two reviews, while most papers received more than two reviews. This is thanks to the contribution of many AMEST and IPC members and several additional reviewers. The workshop will feature 67 exciting presentations that show the cutting edge of research in the area of maintenance and asset management. These, as well as the two keynote speeches will highlight the role and importance of digitalisation and emerging digital technologies.

As you are all aware, COVID-19 has reshaped all practical aspects of physical meetings and events and the IFAC AMEST 2020 is no exception. We have decided to hold IFAC AMEST 2020 as a virtual workshop using the Whova platform which will involve pre-recorded presentations with live discussions between delegates and the authors. We believe that this will allow high quality presentations with minimal technical difficulties whist offering the delegates the opportunity for invigorating debates and live discussion. All registered attendees will receive joining instructions to register and attend the workshop on Whova.

Regardless of this change in format and delivery of the workshop, all authors can be assured that all accepted and registered papers will be published on IFAC-PapersOnLine as planned. Moreover, as stated in the call for papers, authors of the best quality submissions will be invited to submit extended and revised versions of their papers to special issues of selected journals which have agreed to consider such contributions.

We thank you again for your continued support for our workshop and look forward to welcoming you to an exciting IFAC AMEST 2020.

We are living in a digital era. It is evident that the practice of maintenance and asset management has the potential to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of this digital revolution. Concepts such as Industrial Internet of Things, Cyber Physical Systems and Digital Twins are now seen as major opportunities for companies in the manufacturing and infrastructure sectors to improve their products, processes and services. The linkage between the real world and the virtual world enabled by these emerging technologies - supported by new data analytics and innovative machine learning techniques - allow optimised maintenance of industrial systems.

The 4th IFAC AMEST’20 Workshop will bring together experts from academia and industry to discuss the latest advances in digital technologies and their impact on reliability, maintenance and asset management. The workshop will cover a broad range of research and application topics exploring the role of data-driven maintenance and asset management within the domains of manufacturing and infrastructure.
